Hidden Pisgah Ride at Boone Fork

Join us SATURDAY, JANUARY 26th at 10am for a mountain bike ride to rediscover the Boone Fork area of Pisgah -- less than 20 mins south of downtown Blowing Rock and 10 mins north of Lenoir off Roby Martin Road -- 2843-2783 Roby Martin Road, Lenoir, NC 28645. Park on the LEFT side of SPENCER BRANCH ROAD but do not block the gate! This unique area on the eastern edge of Pisgah is a labyrinth of old single track and logging roads, making it ideal for mountain bike adventures. This area has a rich history of mountain biking, in 1994, two of its trails were even featured in "Mountain Biking the Appalachians" by Lori Finley, but in later years, it became overgrown and forgotten by most. Now, thanks to the hard work of the Northwest NC Mountain Bike Alliance these trails will once again grace the pages of Pisgah trail maps. Over the course of the next several years, a 25-mile multi-use trail system will be developed. For now, we can all enjoy the Boone Fork area in its old school state that is reminiscent of the early days of mountain biking. For our ride, we have a 12-mile figure eight planned to highlight some of the most accessible trails in the area. Our ride will start at the Corner of Roby Martin and Spencer Branch Rd. FR 189. Our loop will consist of a 4 mile ascent up Spencer Branch Rd. — a gated double track road that takes you to the top of the mountain; then, turn onto Yellow Trail — a beautiful section of Ridgeline single track; then, straight onto Double H — tight twisty downhill single track that takes you back to Spencer Branch; then, climb 1.5 miles up Spencer Branch to Gem Trail a fast and flowing 3.4 mile piece of mostly downhill single track; then, we will finish with a short downhill cruise on Spencer branch back to the entrance gate. Ride will start at 10am from the Forest Service gate on Spencer Branch. A carpool from Rhoddie Bicycle Outfitters will leave Blowing Rock at 9:15. Globe Gravel Challenge

GlobeGravelChallenge.jpg

Join us for the inaugural Globe Gravel Challenge- a new ride that is rewarding for both it’s challenging nature and it’s scenic beauty! Ride the route like a race, or take it as easy as you can…the choice is yours. After you complete the ride, be sure to spend time in historic downtown Blowing Rock. As a part of the “Savor” weekend, there are plenty of events to keep you and your family entertained. Make sure to take advantage of the coupons in your registration packet, and experience all the lovely shopping and dining options the town has to offer.

The ride will start and finish in downtown Blowing Rock, North Carolina. Route will lead participants South on US-321 for 7 miles before turning onto the scenic and winding gravel of Waterfalls Road and Kirby Mountain Road. Once in the valley, riders will have the option of following a short or long course. The long course riders will rip through the community of Collettsville and follow Johns River back towards the Blue Ridge. Once through the community of Globe, riders will face the featured gravel climb of which the ride receives its name, the vaunted (and dreaded) Globe Road. Globe Road ascends 5-miles leading into Blowing Rock, with a total elevation gain of 2,017 feet and an average grade of 7%.

The shorter course riders will take a right turn up and over Globe Mountain Road, before reaching Collettsville. Within four miles of being in the Globe Valley, you will be at the base of Globe Road- ready to tackle the same challenging climb as the long course riders.

All proceeds to benefit the Middle Fork Greenway, a project led by Blue Ridge Conservancy and High Country Pathways to build a greenway from Blowing Rock to Boone.

Packet pick up will be at Rhoddie Bicycle Outfitters on Friday, May 4th from 12pm to 8pm. and on Saturday, May 5th from 6am to 7am.

Registration is available by clicking here.

The 5th Annual High Tea Gravel Ride

The 5th Annual High Tea Ride is on! This is our way to ring in the New Year with a low stress dirt road ride, potluck, with a little hair of the dog thrown in for good measure!

Two routes for you to choose from:

BOTH rides start and end at Betsey's Ole Country Store where we gather around the fire pit, eat, drink, and be merry!

Cost for the ride is a food or drink to share with the group. Be forewarned - this ride came from a tradition of one upsmanship on cold gravel rides years ago, where we tried to outdo each other with our food and drink offerings. Bring your cooking/mixology A game!
