Hidden Pisgah Ride at Boone Fork

Join us SATURDAY, JANUARY 26th at 10am for a mountain bike ride to rediscover the Boone Fork area of Pisgah -- less than 20 mins south of downtown Blowing Rock and 10 mins north of Lenoir off Roby Martin Road -- 2843-2783 Roby Martin Road, Lenoir, NC 28645. Park on the LEFT side of SPENCER BRANCH ROAD but do not block the gate! This unique area on the eastern edge of Pisgah is a labyrinth of old single track and logging roads, making it ideal for mountain bike adventures. This area has a rich history of mountain biking, in 1994, two of its trails were even featured in "Mountain Biking the Appalachians" by Lori Finley, but in later years, it became overgrown and forgotten by most. Now, thanks to the hard work of the Northwest NC Mountain Bike Alliance these trails will once again grace the pages of Pisgah trail maps. Over the course of the next several years, a 25-mile multi-use trail system will be developed. For now, we can all enjoy the Boone Fork area in its old school state that is reminiscent of the early days of mountain biking. For our ride, we have a 12-mile figure eight planned to highlight some of the most accessible trails in the area. Our ride will start at the Corner of Roby Martin and Spencer Branch Rd. FR 189. Our loop will consist of a 4 mile ascent up Spencer Branch Rd. — a gated double track road that takes you to the top of the mountain; then, turn onto Yellow Trail — a beautiful section of Ridgeline single track; then, straight onto Double H — tight twisty downhill single track that takes you back to Spencer Branch; then, climb 1.5 miles up Spencer Branch to Gem Trail a fast and flowing 3.4 mile piece of mostly downhill single track; then, we will finish with a short downhill cruise on Spencer branch back to the entrance gate. Ride will start at 10am from the Forest Service gate on Spencer Branch. A carpool from Rhoddie Bicycle Outfitters will leave Blowing Rock at 9:15.
